Welcome to the Palm Beach Maritime Academy online...
Palm Beach Maritime Academy is a Charter School operated by the Palm Beach Maritime Museum. Charter Schools are independent, tuition-free, public schools that operate under a performance contract with the local School District. Palm Beach Maritime Academy (PBMA) opened in 1999 with the intention of bringing young people to the sea and teaching them about the impact our seas have had and will continue to have on history, geography, our daily living, and the future of our planet. PBMA integrates maritime studies and marine science with the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards through a variety of methods, which include trips for all students to Peanut Island through the Palm Beach Maritime Museum to visit the Coast Guard House and the Kennedy Bunker as well as to perform a variety of age-appropriate experiments and see first-hand what the environment has to teach us. Students also visit numerous other destinations including the Broward and Palm Beach County Museums of Science, the Everglades, the “Floating Classroom”, the Kravis Center, Jupiter Lighthouse, and a myriad of other locations. Students participate in the “Coastal Clean-up” and community events such as the “Lake Worth Street Painting Festival” and “Kaleidoscope”.
